David Gouverneur received his MArch in urban design from Harvard University (1980) and his BArch from the Universidad Simón Bolívar in Caracas, Venezuela (1977). He has been an Associate Professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture at the University of Pennsylvania since 2010, and since 2012 he has been Professor in Practice of this department. His current area of research focuses on the notion of Informal Armatures, an alternative method to address the rampant urbanization in developing countries. The ideas are condensed in his most recent publication, Planning and Design for New Informal Settlements: Shaping the Self-Constructed City, and its Spanish version, Diseño de nuevos asentamientos informales.
